What is GAMMA-GT (GGT) + CDT?
GAMMA-GT (GGT) and Carbohydrate Deficient Transferrin (CDT) are biomarkers in the blood used to monitor alcohol consumption. GGT is an enzyme involved in the metabolism of fats and alcohol in the liver, while CDT is a form of transferrin, a protein that transports iron in the blood, which decreases with prolonged excessive alcohol use.
Why would you choose to test GAMMA-GT (GGT) + CDT?
This test is useful for people who want to monitor or evaluate their alcohol consumption, especially in situations where excessive use might pose a health risk. It is also helpful for medical professionals to detect and assess alcohol misuse, as well as for evaluating liver function.
What does it indicate?
An elevated level of GGT and/or CDT may indicate excessive alcohol consumption or liver damage. These tests provide an objective measurement to evaluate alcohol use and its effects on the liver.
What does a high GGT or CDT level mean?
A high level may indicate recent excessive alcohol use, liver inflammation, or damage caused by prolonged alcohol misuse. It may also indicate other liver conditions.
May sometimes be used by the CBR.
