It can also be used to assess the health of a pregnancy, particularly in cases of suspected miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. Additionally, it can be helpful in evaluating symptoms related to hormonal imbalance, such as PMS or menopausal symptoms.
Progesterone levels provide insight into a woman's ovulatory and menstrual health. Normal levels can vary depending on the menstrual cycle phase or pregnancy status. It helps in diagnosing conditions such as ovulation disorders, luteal phase defect, and can contribute to understanding infertility issues.
A high level of progesterone is common during the second half of the menstrual cycle and throughout pregnancy. Outside these periods, a high level may indicate ovarian cysts, molar pregnancy, or overproduction by the adrenal glands.
