Candida Albicans IgG is a biomarker that indicates the presence of specific antibodies in the blood. These antibodies are produced in response to an infection with the fungus Candida albicans, which occurs in small amounts in the body under normal circumstances.
Testing for Candida Albicans IgG is useful for individuals experiencing symptoms that may indicate an overgrowth of this fungus, such as fatigue, digestive problems, and skin rash. It is also relevant for people with a weakened immune system, who are more susceptible to infections.
The presence of IgG antibodies against Candida Albicans indicates a previous or persistent infection with this fungus. It assists in evaluating the immune response against Candida.
A high level of Candida Albicans IgG in the blood may indicate a chronic or recent infection with the fungus. This may suggest Candida overgrowth that potentially requires medical attention.
A low level of Candida Albicans IgG suggests that there is no significant immune response against the fungus, which may mean that the person has not been recently or chronically infected with Candida albicans.

The scientific support for this test within mainstream Dutch healthcare is limited. The test is not included in NHG/FMS standard guidelines.
Rationale for this test
De wetenschappelijke onderbouwing voor Candida-IgG als diagnosticum binnen de Nederlandse reguliere zorg is beperkt. De test wordt niet opgenomen in NHG-standaarden of FMS-richtlijnen voor de diagnostiek van Candida-infecties. In de reguliere zorg wordt Candida-diagnostiek primair gedaan via kweek of microscopie bij lokale infecties (vaginaal, oraal). IgG-serologie heeft beperkte klinische betekenis omdat vrijwel iedereen antistoffen tegen Candida heeft door normale kolonisatie.
