High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) is a blood test that can detect very low levels of CRP. CRP is a protein produced by the liver that enters the bloodstream in response to inflammation. The "high-sensitivity" version of the test is more sensitive than standard CRP tests and can detect subtle levels of inflammation.
Testing for hs-CRP is useful for people who want to understand if there is low-grade inflammation in their body, which can be an indicator for various health problems, including heart disease.
