What is Extensive Inflammation Blood Test?

The Extensive Inflammation Blood Test is a comprehensive test for the diagnosis and monitoring of chronic inflammation in the body. This test measures four important biomarkers that together provide a complete picture of inflammatory activity. It is more extensive than the basic package due to the addition of platelets, which are also involved in inflammatory processes. This test is suitable for people with chronic inflammatory diseases, autoimmune diseases, or unexplained symptoms that may indicate underlying inflammation.

What is tested?

  • CRP (C-reactive protein) – Acute inflammation marker that reacts quickly
  • Leukocytes (white blood cells) – Immune system cells that are elevated during inflammation
  • ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) – Marker for chronic inflammation
  • Platelets – Involved in blood clotting and inflammatory processes

Why should you have an Extensive Inflammation test done?

This test is important for people with chronic inflammation such as rheumatism, lupus, arthritis, inflammatory bowel diseases, or other autoimmune diseases. It also helps monitor the effectiveness of anti-inflammatory treatments. Platelets are included because they play an active role in inflammatory processes and are often elevated in chronic inflammation. The test is also useful for unexplained symptoms such as persistent fatigue, joint pain, fever, or weight loss that may indicate underlying inflammatory processes. No fasting required.

What does it indicate?

The results provide a complete picture of inflammatory activity in your body. This test measures:

  • CRP – Acute inflammation or infections
  • ESR – Chronic inflammatory processes
  • Leukocytes – Infections or autoimmune diseases
  • Platelets – Chronic inflammation and thrombosis risk

These markers together help determine if there is active inflammation, how severe it is, and if treatment is effective.

What does a high level mean?

  • Elevated CRP (above 10 mg/L) – Indicates active inflammation or infection and rises quickly within hours
  • Elevated ESR (above 20 mm/hour) – Points to chronic inflammatory processes such as rheumatism, lupus, or other autoimmune diseases
  • High leukocytes – May indicate infections, inflammatory conditions, or in rare cases, blood cancer
  • Elevated platelets (thrombocytosis) – Often occur in chronic inflammation, infections, or after blood loss

These values often require further investigation to identify and treat the underlying cause.

What does a low level mean?

  • Low CRP and ESR – Favorable and indicate the absence of significant inflammation
  • Low leukocytes – May indicate bone marrow disorders, certain infections, or medication side effects
  • Low platelets (thrombocytopenia) – Increase bleeding risk and may indicate autoimmune diseases, bone marrow problems, or medication side effects

Normal or low inflammatory markers in suspected autoimmune disease do not rule out these conditions, as some conditions do not always have elevated markers. This test helps diagnose inflammatory diseases and monitor treatment.
