The Quantiferon TB IGRA (Interferon Gamma Release Assay) is a blood test that assists in detecting infections caused by the tuberculosis bacterium. This test measures the reaction of the immune system to the bacterium and can determine whether an individual has ever been exposed to the tuberculosis bacterium.
This test is useful for individuals who have been in close contact with someone who has tuberculosis, people at increased risk of exposure due to work or travel to areas where tuberculosis is more common, and for those with symptoms of tuberculosis. It is a safe and accurate way to identify tuberculosis infections without direct exposure to the bacterium.
A positive result from the Quantiferon TB IGRA suggests an infection with the tuberculosis bacterium. It means that the person's immune system has been exposed to the bacterium in the past and has developed a response.
A high level of reaction in the Quantiferon TB IGRA suggests an active or recent infection with the tuberculosis bacterium. This requires further evaluation and possible treatment to manage the disease and prevent spread.
A low level or a negative test result means that no significant immune response against the tuberculosis bacterium has been detected. This suggests that the person is probably not infected with tuberculosis.

At most collection points yes. Some accept walk-ins. This is clearly indicated per location. You choose the location that works best for you.
That depends on the test. Whether fasting is required, and from what time, is clearly stated in the instructions you receive after ordering. No surprises at the counter.
It varies per analysis: from same-day to a few working days. Standard values often come back quickly; analyses that go to an external lab can take a bit longer. You get an email with a link to your digital result, including a short explanation per value.

Rationale for this test
De Quantiferon-test (IGRA) is een gestandaardiseerde bloedtest voor het opsporen van tuberculose-infectie en is opgenomen in Nederlandse zorgrichtlijnen. De test wordt aanbevolen in de richtlijnen voor TBC-screening bij patiënten die immuunsuppressieve medicatie gaan krijgen en in justitiële inrichtingen. IGRA heeft een hogere specificiteit dan de klassieke Mantoux-huidtest en geeft geen vals-positieve uitslagen na BCG-vaccinatie.
