TSH (Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone) and Free T4 (thyroxine) are biomarkers that assess thyroid function. TSH is produced in the pituitary gland and stimulates the thyroid to produce T4, which is essential for regulating metabolism.
Testing TSH and Free T4 is useful for assessing your thyroid health. It is especially helpful when you experience symptoms that may indicate a thyroid disorder, such as fatigue, weight changes, or mood swings.
A TSH + Free T4 test can show whether your thyroid is too active (hyperthyroidism) or not active enough (hypothyroidism). It provides a clear picture of how your thyroid functions.
A high TSH level may indicate hypothyroidism, where the thyroid gland does not produce enough hormones. This can lead to symptoms such as weight gain, fatigue, and sensitivity to cold.

At most collection points yes. Some accept walk-ins. This is clearly indicated per location. You choose the location that works best for you.
That depends on the test. Whether fasting is required, and from what time, is clearly stated in the instructions you receive after ordering. No surprises at the counter.
It varies per analysis: from same-day to a few working days. Standard values often come back quickly; analyses that go to an external lab can take a bit longer. You get an email with a link to your digital result, including a short explanation per value.

TSH en vrij T4 zijn standaard-bepalingen in Nederlandse zorgrichtlijnen voor het beoordelen van de schildklierfunctie. Deze combinatie wordt gebruikt bij vermoeden van hypo- of hyperthyreoïdie en is goed wetenschappelijk onderbouwd. De klinische betekenis van beide markers is helder vastgesteld binnen de reguliere geneeskunde.
