What is Chloride?

What does it indicate?
The chloride level in your blood can provide insight into the functioning of your metabolism and how well your body maintains the acid-base balance. It may also indicate potential disturbances in the electrolyte balance, which are essential for normal cellular and organ functions.
What does a high chloride level mean?
A high chloride level, also known as hyperchloremia, may indicate dehydration, kidney disease, or certain forms of metabolic acidosis, where the blood becomes too acidic.
What does a low chloride level mean?
A low chloride level, or hypochloremia, may indicate overhydration, heart failure, or conditions that lead to overly alkaline (basic) blood, such as metabolic alkalosis.
