Celiac disease, also known as gluten intolerance, is an autoimmune disease in which the body reacts negatively to gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. The biomarkers IgA and IgG Transglutaminase are proteins measured in the blood to screen for celiac disease. These markers indicate an immune response against gluten.
Testing for these biomarkers is useful for individuals who experience symptoms of gluten intolerance, such as abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, or unexplained weight loss. It is also beneficial for people with a family history of celiac disease.
A positive test for IgA and IgG Transglutaminase markers indicates the presence of celiac disease. It demonstrates that the body's immune system is attacking gluten, causing damage to the small intestine.
A high level of IgA and IgG Transglutaminase markers points to a strong immune response against gluten, indicative of celiac disease. It means the body is reacting significantly negatively to gluten intake.
A low level of these markers may indicate an absence of celiac disease, but it is important to note that some individuals with celiac disease may also have low or normal levels. Further testing may be necessary for a complete evaluation.
