How do you collect a urine sample?

Collecting urine in a plastic cup

1.Urinate into a plastic collection cup

If the urine sample cannot be transferred immediately, it can be stored for up to 24 hours at 2–10 °C.

Transferring urine with pipette into Cobas PCR tube

2.Open the pipette and Cobas PCR Media tube

Open the pipette packaging by peeling the foil at the side. Open the Cobas® PCR Media tube. Transfer the urine using the pipette.

Checking fluid level between black markings

3.Check the volume against the tube markings

The correct volume is reached when the fluid level is between the two black lines on the tube label.

Closing tube and inverting 5×

4.Close and mix the tube (5×)

Close the Cobas PCR tube tightly. Invert the tube 5 times to mix thoroughly. The sample is now ready for transport.

Sealing the specimen bag

5.Place in the blue specimen bag

Put the tube into the (blue) specimen bag and seal it well.

Sending to the laboratory

6.Into the medical envelope and into the mail

Place the specimen bag in the medical return envelope and post it.
