This test measures the parameters pancreatic elastase and bile acids. This provides information about nutrient absorption, especially fats, and the functioning of the pancreas.
The pancreas produces the digestive enzyme elastase. In contrast to other protein-splitting enzymes, elastase remains active even after it has passed through the intestines. Therefore, by examining the elastase level in the stool, it can be determined whether the pancreas is functioning adequately.
If, due to a condition, insufficient enzymes reach the small intestine for proper food digestion, the body may not absorb nutrients well, especially fats.
Bile salts are produced in the liver and stored in the gallbladder. After consuming a meal, they are released into the small intestine where they are important for, among other things, breaking down fats. Under normal circumstances, more than 95% of bile salts are reabsorbed in the last part of the small intestine to return to the liver. An excess of bile salts in the intestine stimulates water secretion, which causes diarrhea.
This test has clinical value for specific complaints or indications, but is not intended as screening without symptoms.

Lay plastic film over the toilet or use a clean container. Scoop from the middle of the stool and avoid contact with urine or toilet water.
A small scoop with the included spoon is enough — about half a teaspoon. More is not better.
Maximum 24 to 48 hours in the fridge. Send as soon as possible and preferably early in the week, not just before the weekend.
Some analyses (like calprotectin) ask you to avoid NSAIDs or certain supplements 24-48 hours before collection. Check the instructions with your kit for the exact preparation for your test.
Stool analyses typically take about a week after the lab receives your sample. You get an email with a link to your digital result, including explanation per value.
