Your collection kit

What's in your test kit?

You’ll receive everything needed for correct urine collection:

  • Plastic collection cup with yellow screw cap
  • Urine tube(s) with label (if multiple: fill them all)
  • Specimen bag for the tube
  • Pre-paid medical return envelope

How do you collect a urine sample?

  1. Opening the collection cup

    Step 1

    Open the collection cup

Twist off the lid of the collection cup. Do not touch the inside.

  2. Collecting urine in the cup

    Step 2

    Collect urine (midstream)

Pass a small amount of urine into the toilet first to flush the urethra. Then collect urine in the cup (about 30 ml). The rest into the toilet again. Twist the lid back on firmly.

  3. Swirling the collection cup

    Step 3

    Swirl (3 to 5 times)

Gently swirl the collection cup 3 to 5 times so the urine is homogeneous.

  4. Removing label from lid

    Step 4

Remove the label from the lid

Peel off the label on the lid so the opening becomes visible.

  5. Pressing urine tube into the opening

    Step 5

Press the urine tube into the opening

Press the urine tube firmly into the opening. Have multiple tubes? Do them one at a time.

  6. Tube filling automatically

    Step 6

The tube fills itself by vacuum

The tube fills automatically via vacuum. Wait until the flow stops, then there is enough urine inside.

  7. Tilting cup when urine is low

    Step 7

Low on urine? Tilt the cup

If urine is low: tilt the cup so the opening stays fully submerged. If it still does not work, collect additional urine.

  8. Discarding the collection cup

    Step 8

    Discard the collection cup

Pull the tube loose. The collection cup can go in regular household waste.

  9. Urine tubes ready for shipping

    Step 9

Fill every tube if you have multiple

Have multiple urine tubes in your kit? Fill them all, each analysis needs its own tube. Then pack them in the included specimen bag and envelope.

  10. PostNL service point with an indoor letterbox for letter mail

    Step 10

    Send to the laboratory

Preferably take the return envelope to a PostNL service point the same working day. Place it in the letter-mail bag or indoor letterbox yourself. Do not hand it to counter staff or request track & trace.

After collection

Return your sample promptly

Return your sample on the same working day whenever possible to preserve its quality. If your kit contains a medical return envelope, put it into the letter-mail bag or indoor letter box at a PostNL point yourself. Do not hand it over or request track and trace, as parcel processing can delay it by several days.
