Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) is a hormone primarily produced by the cardiac muscles in response to stretching. BNP levels in the blood increase when the heart has to work harder. It is often measured to diagnose heart failure or assess its severity, as higher BNP levels may indicate an increased workload on the heart.
Testing for BNP is useful for assessing the presence and severity of heart failure. It can help distinguish heart failure from other conditions with similar symptoms, such as pulmonary disorders. BNP testing is also valuable for monitoring the effectiveness of treatments for heart failure.
An elevated BNP level in the blood suggests that the heart is under pressure and may not be working efficiently, which can be a sign of heart failure. The BNP test can also help determine the risk of future cardiac problems in people without symptoms.
A high BNP level usually indicates heart failure or another condition that puts extra strain on the heart. It can also be elevated in cases of kidney failure, because the kidneys are less efficient at removing BNP from the blood.
A low BNP level is usually an indication that heart failure is less likely to be the cause of a patient's symptoms. It may indicate effective treatment or the absence of significant cardiac strain.

After ordering we generate a referral letter and email you the instructions. You pick a collection point yourself and book an appointment there. Blood is drawn at the location, processed at the lab, and your result arrives digitally.
Often within a few working days. How soon you can be seen depends on how busy the location is and the type of analysis. For specialist analyses we first ship collection materials, which takes a bit longer.
At most collection points yes. Some accept walk-ins. This is clearly indicated per location. You choose the location that works best for you.
