Globulin protein electrophoresis is a test that separates and measures the different types of globulin proteins in the blood. These proteins are essential for the immune system and for transporting substances such as iron and hormones throughout the body. The Total Protein test measures the total amount of protein in the blood, including albumin and globulins.
These tests are useful for evaluating nutritional status, kidney and liver function, and for detecting certain diseases such as autoimmune diseases, chronic infections. It can also help in assessing overall health status.
The quantity and ratio of the different globulins and the total protein content can provide indications regarding the presence of inflammation, infections, liver diseases, and the function of the immune system.
A high level of globulins may indicate chronic infections, autoimmune diseases, or liver diseases. A high total protein content may suggest dehydration or other medical conditions.
A low level may indicate poor nutritional status, kidney diseases where proteins are lost, or liver diseases. It may also suggest reduced immunity.

De test scheidt albumine en verschillende globulinefracties (alfa-1, alfa-2, bèta-1, bèta-2, gamma) en meet het totale eiwitgehalte. Deze bepalingen zijn opgenomen in de NVKC-referentiewaarden en worden routinematig gebruikt voor diagnostiek van lever-, nier- en immuunsysteemaandoeningen.

After ordering we generate a referral letter and email you the instructions. You pick a collection point yourself and book an appointment there. Blood is drawn at the location, processed at the lab, and your result arrives digitally.
Often within a few working days. How soon you can be seen depends on how busy the location is and the type of analysis. For specialist analyses we first ship collection materials, which takes a bit longer.
At most collection points yes. Some accept walk-ins. This is clearly indicated per location. You choose the location that works best for you.
That depends on the test. Whether fasting is required, and from what time, is clearly stated in the instructions you receive after ordering. No surprises at the counter.
It varies per analysis: from same-day to a few working days. Standard values often come back quickly; analyses that go to an external lab can take a bit longer. You receive your laboratory report securely by email. It lists the measured values, units, reference ranges and any flags added by the laboratory.
