The Post-COVID Syndrome Extensive blood test is a comprehensive analysis for individuals with prolonged symptoms after COVID-19. This test goes beyond the basic package and adds important markers for muscle condition, heart function, muscle breakdown, and nutritional status. Besides the lungs, COVID-19 can also affect the heart, muscles, and metabolism. This extensive analysis helps to determine which organ systems are affected and what causes persistent symptoms such as extreme fatigue, muscle weakness, pulmonary complaints, and malnutrition.
This extensive test is suitable for individuals with severe or prolonged post-COVID symptoms. CK (creatine kinase) measures active muscle breakdown that can occur after COVID. LD (lactate dehydrogenase) is elevated with damage to the lungs, heart, or other tissues. Leukocytes check the immune system. Magnesium is crucial for muscle and heart function and is often low after COVID. ALT checks the liver, which can be affected. Albumin measures nutritional status, which is often poor after severe COVID. This test provides a more complete picture of the systemic effects of COVID on your body.

Elevated CK indicates active muscle breakdown due to COVID and requires rest and recovery. Elevated LD may indicate lung damage, heart damage, or liver damage after COVID. Elevated ESR means persistent inflammation. High leukocytes can indicate secondary infections or immune activation. Elevated ALT indicates liver inflammation that sometimes occurs after COVID. Elevated creatinine means kidney problems. These abnormalities require medical evaluation and targeted management to promote recovery.
Low hemoglobin and iron cause extreme fatigue and should be addressed. Low leukocytes can indicate a weakened immune system after COVID. Low magnesium is very common after COVID and causes muscle cramps, heart problems, and fatigue. Low albumin indicates malnutrition or chronic inflammation and requires nutritional support. Low MCV indicates iron deficiency anemia. These deficiencies explain many post-COVID symptoms and are, fortunately, manageable with supplements, nutrition, and rest. Correcting these values often leads to significant improvement in condition and well-being.

De Nederlandse richtlijn voor langdurige klachten na COVID-19 (NHG/FMS) beveelt laboratoriumonderzoek aan op indicatie, maar schrijft geen specifiek testpakket voor. De meeste markers in dit pakket (bloedbeeld, nierfunctie, leverfunctie) zijn gevestigde diagnostische tests, maar hun specifieke waarde als screeningspakket voor post-COVID is niet vastgesteld in richtlijnen. De test is geschikt voor gerichte diagnostiek bij specifieke klachten, maar niet als standaard-screening zonder klinische indicatie.
