This blood test measures three substances from cannabis (weed and hash) in a single blood draw. THC is the substance that gives the effect. The body breaks THC down into 11-OH-THC, which is also active, and then into THC-COOH, which has no effect but stays in the blood much longer. Together, the three values give a picture of how recently cannabis was used.
The test is useful for a medical question in which cannabis use may play a role, or if you want to know whether there is still cannabis in your blood after stopping or cutting down. If you use medicinal cannabis or CBD oil, keep this in mind when reading the result.
THC and 11-OH-THC mainly show use in the past hours to about a day: after one joint, THC is detectable for about 6 to 8 hours, longer with daily use or after space cake. THC-COOH stays detectable for a number of days up to sometimes two months, depending on how much and how often cannabis was used. If only THC-COOH is detectable, this fits use that was longer ago.
A detectable value shows that cannabis has been used; how long ago follows from which of the three substances are detectable. A higher value often fits more or more frequent use, but the values cannot be converted into the amount or the exact time of use. They also do not say how strongly you were under the influence or whether you could drive safely. Medicinal cannabis and CBD products that contain too much THC also give detectable values.
A value below the laboratory's limit means that the substance was not detectable at the time of the sample collection. If THC is not detectable but THC-COOH is, this fits use more than about a day ago. If none of the three is detectable, this fits no or little use in the past few days; after occasional use, THC-COOH can be below the limit again after just a few days.

Practical information
After ordering we generate a referral letter and email you the instructions. You pick a collection point yourself and book an appointment there. Blood is drawn at the location, processed at the lab, and your result arrives digitally.
Often within a few working days. How soon you can be seen depends on how busy the location is and the type of analysis. For specialist analyses we first ship collection materials, which takes a bit longer.
At most collection points yes. Some accept walk-ins. This is clearly indicated per location. You choose the location that works best for you.
That depends on the test. Whether fasting is required, and from what time, is clearly stated in the instructions you receive after ordering. No surprises at the counter.
Usually within a few working days after collection. Turnaround time varies by analysis; analyses sent to an external lab can take longer. You receive your laboratory report securely by email. It lists the measured values, units, reference ranges and any flags added by the laboratory.
