Cardiolipin antibodies are specific proteins produced by the immune system. These antibodies target cardiolipin, an important component of the inner layer of cells. The presence of these antibodies is often associated with autoimmune diseases, such as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and antiphospholipid syndrome.
The cardiolipin antibody test may be recommended if you have symptoms suggestive of an autoimmune disease, such as unexplained rash, joint pain, fatigue, or blood clotting problems. It is also useful for people with an unexplained history of miscarriages, as antiphospholipid syndrome may play a role in recurrent miscarriages.
The presence of cardiolipin antibodies in the blood may indicate the presence of an autoimmune disease such as SLE or antiphospholipid syndrome. This test assists in diagnosis and determining treatment.
A high level of cardiolipin antibodies may indicate an increased risk of blood clotting disorders, cardiovascular diseases, or an autoimmune disease such as SLE or antiphospholipid syndrome. It may also be associated with a higher risk of miscarriage.
A low level of cardiolipin antibodies is considered normal and suggests that the aforementioned autoimmune diseases may not be present. It indicates a lower probability of related health issues.
