What is the Heart Complete Test?

The Heart Complete blood test is a comprehensive package specifically developed for assessing your cardiovascular health. This test combines a complete lipid profile with kidney function, blood sugar levels, and a specific cardiac function marker (NT-proBNP). It is a very complete screening for cardiovascular health, suitable for preventive monitoring, especially in individuals with a sedentary lifestyle, overweight, a family history of heart problems, or existing risk factors such as high blood pressure or diabetes.

What is tested?

  • LDL cholesterol – "Bad" cholesterol
  • HDL cholesterol – "Good" cholesterol
  • Triglycerides – Fats in the blood
  • Total cholesterol – Sum of all cholesterol
  • Risk Index – Cholesterol/HDL ratio
  • Creatinine (kidney function) – Waste product for kidney assessment
  • eGFR – Estimated glomerular filtration rate
  • Glucose – Blood sugar level
  • HbA1c – Average blood sugar over 2-3 months
  • NT-proBNP (cardiac function) – Marker for heart failure and cardiac strain

Why should you have the Heart Complete Test done?

This test is essential for assessing your cardiovascular risk on multiple fronts. The lipid profile shows your cholesterol status. Kidney function is crucial because kidney problems often coincide with cardiovascular diseases. Glucose and HbA1c screen for diabetes, a significant risk factor for heart problems. NT-proBNP is a specific marker that is elevated in heart failure and cardiac strain. This test is particularly suitable for preventive screening in individuals with a sedentary lifestyle, for people with multiple risk factors (smoking, overweight, high blood pressure), or with symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, or fatigue. It helps to comprehensively identify your cardiovascular risk.

What does it indicate?

The results provide a very complete picture of cardiovascular health. Elevated LDL and low HDL indicate a risk of atherosclerosis. High triglycerides are associated with metabolic syndrome. Reduced kidney function significantly increases cardiovascular risk. Elevated glucose and HbA1c indicate diabetes or pre-diabetes. NT-proBNP is elevated in heart failure, myocardial diseases, or severe cardiac strain. This combination of markers helps to detect cardiovascular problems early and to assess the risk of heart attack, stroke, and heart failure.

What does a high level mean?

Elevated LDL-cholesterol, triglycerides, and risk index directly increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases. High glucose and HbA1c indicate diabetes, which multiplies cardiovascular risk. Elevated creatinine signifies reduced kidney function, often associated with heart problems. Elevated NT-proBNP is significant and may indicate heart failure, myocardial diseases, valvular defects, or severe cardiac strain. Values above 125 pg/mL require cardiological examination. These deviations together increase the risk of serious cardiovascular events and require active treatment and monitoring.

What does a low level mean?

Low HDL-cholesterol is unfavorable and reduces protection against cardiovascular diseases. Low triglycerides are favorable. Low LDL is excellent. Too low blood sugar can indicate hypoglycemia. Low NT-proBNP is favorable and indicates a well-functioning heart without overload. Optimal values for heart health are: LDL below 2.6 mmol/L, HDL above 1.5 mmol/L, triglycerides below 1.7 mmol/L, HbA1c below 6.0%, normal kidney function, and NT-proBNP below 125 pg/mL. This test helps you optimize your lifestyle and medication for a healthy heart and blood vessels.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to what people usually want to know.

How does it work from order to result?

After ordering we generate a referral letter and email you the instructions. You pick a collection point yourself and book an appointment there. Blood is drawn at the location, processed at the lab, and your result arrives digitally.

How quickly can I get tested?

Usually very quickly. Collection points typically have slots within a few days, sometimes even same-day. It depends on how busy the location is. For a few specialist analyses we first ship collection materials, which takes a bit longer.

Do I need to book an appointment?

At most collection points yes. Some accept walk-ins. This is clearly indicated per location. You choose the location that works best for you.

Do I need to fast before the test?

That depends on the test. Whether fasting is required, and from what time, is clearly stated in the instructions you receive after ordering. No surprises at the counter.

When and how do I receive my result?

It varies per analysis: from same-day to a few working days. Standard values often come back quickly; analyses that go to an external lab can take a bit longer. You get an email with a link to your digital result, including a short explanation per value.

Where can I go for collection?

We work with 1,000+ collection points across the Netherlands. After ordering you'll see which locations near you are available and you pick where you'd like to go.
