Hepatitis A is a highly contagious virus that infects the liver and causes inflammation. It is primarily spread through eating or drinking contaminated food or water.
Testing for Hepatitis A is important if you experience symptoms such as jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), intense fatigue, nausea, and abdominal pain, especially after traveling to high-risk areas for Hepatitis A or after exposure to contaminated food or water. It is also useful for people who have an increased risk due to their work or living conditions.
The presence of antibodies against the Hepatitis A virus in the blood indicates a current or past infection. This can help in diagnosing the disease and determining immunity.
A high level of Hepatitis A antibodies indicates an active infection or recent exposure to the virus. This usually requires immediate medical attention to prevent complications and limit the spread of the virus.
A low or non-detectable level of antibodies against Hepatitis A may indicate an absence of infection or a lack of immunity against the virus. In some cases, vaccination might be recommended to provide protection against the virus.
