HOMA IR is a calculation used to estimate insulin resistance. It utilizes the fasting glucose and insulin concentrations in the blood. Insulin resistance indicates how well your body responds to insulin, the hormone that regulates your blood sugar level.
Testing HOMA IR is useful for detecting early signs of insulin resistance. This is especially relevant for people with an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, or heart diseases. It can also be beneficial for those who want to accurately monitor their health and take preventive measures.
A HOMA IR score provides an indication of the body's efficiency in using insulin to remove glucose from the blood. It helps in identifying insulin resistance, a condition where higher levels of insulin are required to transport glucose to the cells.
A high HOMA IR level indicates insulin resistance, meaning your body has more difficulty removing glucose from your blood, despite the presence of insulin. This can be a precursor to type 2 diabetes and is associated with other metabolic disorders.
A low HOMA IR level suggests good insulin sensitivity, meaning your body can efficiently remove glucose from your blood and use it for energy. This is generally considered an indicator of good metabolic health.

HOMA-IR is een gevalideerde berekening voor het inschatten van insulineresistentie op basis van nuchtere glucose en insuline. De test wordt gebruikt in Nederlandse zorgrichtlijnen voor specifieke patiëntgroepen zoals vrouwen met PCOS en kinderen met verhoogd cardiovasculair risico. Voor screening van gezonde personen zonder klachten is de test echter niet bedoeld, omdat de klinische betekenis sterk afhankelijk is van de context en er geen eenduidige afkapwaarden zijn voor de algemene populatie.

At most collection points yes. Some accept walk-ins. This is clearly indicated per location. You choose the location that works best for you.
