Iron status is determined by two important biomarkers: Ferritin and Transferrin Saturation (TRAFS). Ferritin indicates the amount of stored iron in your body, while Transferrin Saturation indicates how much of the iron transport protein transferrin is saturated with iron. Together, these two values provide a complete insight into both your iron reserves and the transport of iron in your blood.
This test provides the most accurate picture of your iron status. It is useful for distinguishing between different causes of iron deficiency and for detecting iron overload. The combination is particularly important when experiencing symptoms of fatigue, or when conditions such as hemochromatosis or chronic inflammation are suspected.
The combination of Ferritin and Transferrin Saturation helps in diagnosing various iron disorders. A low ferritin level with low transferrin saturation suggests true iron deficiency, while a normal ferritin level with low transferrin saturation may indicate functional iron deficiency due to inflammation.
High levels of both parameters may indicate iron overload, such as in hereditary hemochromatosis. This can lead to iron accumulation in organs such as the liver, heart, and pancreas, which can be harmful in the long term.
Low levels of both parameters indicate iron deficiency anemia. Your body has insufficient iron stores and also cannot transport enough iron to the tissues where it is needed. This can lead to fatigue, concentration problems, and other symptoms of iron deficiency.

Answers to what people usually want to know.
After ordering we generate a referral letter and email you the instructions. You pick a collection point yourself and book an appointment there. Blood is drawn at the location, processed at the lab, and your result arrives digitally.
Usually very quickly. Collection points typically have slots within a few days, sometimes even same-day. It depends on how busy the location is. For a few specialist analyses we first ship collection materials, which takes a bit longer.
At most collection points yes. Some accept walk-ins. This is clearly indicated per location. You choose the location that works best for you.

That depends on the test. Whether fasting is required, and from what time, is clearly stated in the instructions you receive after ordering. No surprises at the counter.
It varies per analysis: from same-day to a few working days. Standard values often come back quickly; analyses that go to an external lab can take a bit longer. You get an email with a link to your digital result, including a short explanation per value.
