PhenoAge is a biological age test that determines your true body age instead of your chronological age. Developed by scientists at UCLA and Yale University, this test uses 9 standard blood values to predict how quickly your body is actually aging and what your risk is for age-related diseases.
PhenoAge offers unique insights into your aging process that go beyond your calendar age:
Your PhenoAge score represents your biological age. If your PhenoAge is higher than your chronological age, this may indicate accelerated aging due to factors such as chronic inflammation, poor metabolic health, or reduced organ function. A lower PhenoAge suggests that your body is aging slower than average for your age.
Unlike other aging tests that require complex DNA analysis, PhenoAge uses only standard blood values. This makes it the most accessible and practical biological age test available. PhenoAge helps you take concrete steps to slow down your aging and extend your healthspan by providing insight into the actual state of your body.
The scientific support for this test within mainstream Dutch healthcare is limited. The test is not included in NHG/FMS standard guidelines.
Rationale for this test
PhenoAge is een biologische leeftijdstest gebaseerd op 9 standaard bloedwaardes. Hoewel de onderliggende biomarkers (albumine, creatinine, glucose, CRP, lymfocyten, MCV, RDW, alkalische fosfatase, leukocyten) individueel gevalideerde laboratoriumtests zijn, is het PhenoAge-algoritme zelf niet opgenomen in Nederlandse zorgrichtlijnen van NHG of FMS. De wetenschappelijke onderbouwing komt voornamelijk uit internationaal onderzoek naar associaties met sterfte en cardiovasculaire risico's, maar de klinische betekenis voor individuele patiënten en de interpretatie van de 'biologische leeftijd' zijn nog onderwerp van wetenschappelijk debat.

After ordering we generate a referral letter and email you the instructions. You pick a collection point yourself and book an appointment there. Blood is drawn at the location, processed at the lab, and your result arrives digitally.
Often within a few working days. How soon you can be seen depends on how busy the location is and the type of analysis. For specialist analyses we first ship collection materials, which takes a bit longer.
At most collection points yes. Some accept walk-ins. This is clearly indicated per location. You choose the location that works best for you.
That depends on the test. Whether fasting is required, and from what time, is clearly stated in the instructions you receive after ordering. No surprises at the counter.
It varies per analysis: from same-day to a few working days. Standard values often come back quickly; analyses that go to an external lab can take a bit longer. You get an email with a link to your digital result, including a short explanation per value.
