The follow-up test measures IgE antibodies separately against each of the 4 molds from the mold allergy screen. Where the screen only shows whether you are sensitized to at least one of them, here you get a separate result per mold.
After a positive mold screen, if you have nose or eye symptoms, coughing or shortness of breath that may fit molds: outdoors in summer and late summer, when working with plants, hay or compost, or in a damp home. Per mold you can better see whether the source is mainly outdoors or indoors. With asthma, the result can help to recognize molds as a trigger.
Allergy pills (antihistamines) do not affect this blood test; you do not need to stop them.
For each mold, the result shows whether you are sensitized: whether your body has made IgE antibodies. That is not the same as an allergy. A result only counts if it fits when and where you have symptoms.
A value above the cut-off for a mold means that you have IgE antibodies against it. If that fits your symptoms, that mold may be a cause. With molds, the result is harder to interpret than with pollen or house dust mite: there are many types of mold and the symptoms are less clearly linked to one season or one place. With asthma that is poorly controlled, especially with a positive result for Aspergillus fumigatus, a referral to a lung specialist may follow. A higher value does not say how severe the symptoms are.
A value below the cut-off means that no IgE antibodies against that mold were found; an allergy to it is then less likely. If all 4 are negative while the screen was positive, it may be a low sensitization without clinical meaning. Other molds and yeasts are not measured.

Practical information
After ordering we generate a referral letter and email you the instructions. You pick a collection point yourself and book an appointment there. Blood is drawn at the location, processed at the lab, and your result arrives digitally.
Often within a few working days. How soon you can be seen depends on how busy the location is and the type of analysis. For specialist analyses we first ship collection materials, which takes a bit longer.
At most collection points yes. Some accept walk-ins. This is clearly indicated per location. You choose the location that works best for you.
That depends on the test. Whether fasting is required, and from what time, is clearly stated in the instructions you receive after ordering. No surprises at the counter.
Usually within a few working days after collection. Turnaround time varies by analysis; analyses sent to an external lab can take longer. You receive your laboratory report securely by email. It lists the measured values, units, reference ranges and any flags added by the laboratory.
