FX5 is a blood test for specific IgE antibodies to a mixture of six food allergens: egg white (f1), cow’s milk (f2), cod (f3), wheat (f4), peanut (f13) and soy (f14). FX5 is the code for the mix; the number 5 does not refer to the number of allergens.
This screening can help investigate symptoms when an IgE-mediated allergy to one or more of these foods is suspected. The choice of test depends on your symptoms and the foods that may trigger a reaction. If one particular food is suspected, an individual IgE test may be more targeted.
You receive one combined screening result for the FX5 mix, not six individual results. The test does not identify which food is responsible for a positive result. Additional, individual IgE tests are needed to determine this.
A positive result indicates IgE antibodies to one or more ingredients in the mix. This is called sensitisation and does not, by itself, establish a food allergy. A doctor interprets the result alongside your symptoms and may recommend further testing.
A negative result means that the screening did not detect IgE antibodies above the threshold used. It does not completely rule out a food allergy. FX5 only tests the six food allergens listed and is not a test for food intolerances or coeliac disease.
This test is included in Dutch healthcare guidelines and is regularly used for its respective indications.
Rationale for this test
Deze test is een gestandaardiseerde screening op IgE-antilichamen tegen een mengsel van zes voedingsallergenen (kippeneiwit, koemelk, kabeljauw, tarwe, pinda en soja). De screening geeft één gezamenlijke uitslag; afzonderlijke IgE-bepalingen zijn nodig om te bepalen welk allergeen positief is. De FX5-mix wordt in Nederlandse richtlijnen voor constitutioneel eczeem genoemd als diagnostisch instrument bij verdenking op voedselallergie. De test heeft een gevestigde rol in de klinische praktijk voor het opsporen van IgE-gemedieerde voedselallergieën.

Practical information
After ordering we generate a referral letter and email you the instructions. You pick a collection point yourself and book an appointment there. Blood is drawn at the location, processed at the lab, and your result arrives digitally.
Often within a few working days. How soon you can be seen depends on how busy the location is and the type of analysis. For specialist analyses we first ship collection materials, which takes a bit longer.
At most collection points yes. Some accept walk-ins. This is clearly indicated per location. You choose the location that works best for you.
That depends on the test. Whether fasting is required, and from what time, is clearly stated in the instructions you receive after ordering. No surprises at the counter.
Usually within a few working days after collection. Turnaround time varies by analysis; analyses sent to an external lab can take longer. You receive your laboratory report securely by email. It lists the measured values, units, reference ranges and any flags added by the laboratory.
