Lipase is an enzyme primarily produced by the pancreas and plays a crucial role in digestion. It aids in breaking down fats into smaller molecules that can be more easily absorbed by the body.
Testing for lipase can be useful to assess the health of the pancreas, especially if there are symptoms indicating a pancreatic issue, such as abdominal pain, nausea, or weight loss. It can also assist in diagnosing acute pancreatitis or other conditions related to the pancreas.
A lipase test measures the amount of lipase in the blood. Normal levels indicate a well-functioning pancreas, while abnormal levels may point to a problem with the pancreas or the presence of certain diseases.
A high lipase level may indicate acute pancreatitis, a blockage in the pancreas, or other conditions such as renal failure or celiac disease. It can also be elevated in some people with chronic pancreatitis.
A low lipase level is less common, but can occur with severe pancreatic damage or in people who have had part of their pancreas surgically removed. It may also indicate the presence of certain genetic disorders.
This test is included in Dutch healthcare guidelines and is regularly used for its respective indications.

Lipase is een standaard-bepaling in Nederlandse zorgrichtlijnen voor de diagnostiek van acute buikpijn en pancreatitis. Bij acute pancreatitis is serum lipase meer dan 3x verhoogd in 77% van de gevallen. De test heeft een goed onderbouwde klinische betekenis binnen de reguliere geneeskunde.

After ordering we generate a referral letter and email you the instructions. You pick a collection point yourself and book an appointment there. Blood is drawn at the location, processed at the lab, and your result arrives digitally.
Often within a few working days. How soon you can be seen depends on how busy the location is and the type of analysis. For specialist analyses we first ship collection materials, which takes a bit longer.
At most collection points yes. Some accept walk-ins. This is clearly indicated per location. You choose the location that works best for you.
That depends on the test. Whether fasting is required, and from what time, is clearly stated in the instructions you receive after ordering. No surprises at the counter.
It varies per analysis: from same-day to a few working days. Standard values often come back quickly; analyses that go to an external lab can take a bit longer. You get an email with a link to your digital result, including a short explanation per value.
